Nissan's Snug Kids™ Celebrates a Decade of Helping Secure the Safety of Children

Snug_kids

FRANKLIN, Tenn. – Nissan kicks off Child Passenger Safety Week by celebrating the 10th anniversary of its Snug Kids™ program, the automotive industry's first child safety seat fit initiative. Since 2002, Nissan has provided parents and caregivers with peace of mind by offering valuable tools and resources to help determine which child safety seats fit properly in Nissan and Infiniti vehicles, as well as tips on how to achieve a secure fit when installing a rear or forward-facing child seat or booster.

"Ten years ago Nissan made child passenger safety a priority and pioneered the Snug Kids™ program to help parents ensure the safety of their most precious cargo," said Bob Yakushi, director of product safety, Nissan North America. "We are proud to be the only automaker who offers a comprehensive seat fit guide for all of our products with a back seat."

To celebrate its decade-long commitment to safety and to help arm Nashville-area residents with the tools needed to install child-restraint systems properly, the automakers will have certified technicians onsite at its Franklin headquarters to inspect child car seats and offer step-by-step instruction on proper installation. This event is open to the public. Parents or caregivers wanting to have their seats checked should visit Nissan at 1 Nissan Way, Franklin, Tenn., between 1-3 p.m. Oct. 5.

Knowing how to properly secure a child in a correct-fitting child safety seat is one of the most important things that parents can do to help protect their children in a vehicle. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), automobile accidents are the leading cause of death for children ages 1–12. However, the use of a child-restraint system has been shown to reduce fatalities by 71 percent in infants and 54 percent in toddlers, which makes finding the right child-restraint system a vital part of protecting child passengers.

Also during the first week of October, Nissan will host a Child Passenger Safety Technician (CPST) course at its training center in Cool Springs, Tenn., for area first responders. During the four-day course, firefighters and emergency medical technicians (EMTs) will learn about crash dynamics, injury prevention strategies, and child-restraint selection and installation. Participants who complete the training will receive national certification and will be able to offer seat-check days to residents in their own communities.

During the past 10 years, Nissan's safety engineers have dedicated thousands of hours to evaluating hundreds of child-restraint systems by installing them in the rear seats of Nissan and Infiniti products. The results are published in a comprehensive child safety seat fit guide for parents and caregivers. Nissan's process for evaluating the compatibility of child-restraints in vehicles has been recognized as an industry leader and in 2011, the automaker announced its planned participation in the Vehicle-CRS Fit Program, a future initiative proposed by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

Much like Snug Kids™, NHTSA's program would be aimed at helping consumers choose child-restraint systems that properly fit their vehicles and would encourage other vehicle manufacturers to voluntarily assess and recommend at least three current child-restraint models in each category (rear-facing, front-facing and booster) for use in current vehicle models.

Are you a part of the 1 million that have been "turned-on" to the Nissan Leaf?

[[posterous-content:pid___0]]

ROLLE, Switzerland - The Big Turn On, Nissan's ambitious on-line campaign designed to get one million people ‘turned on' to electric vehicles, has hit its target ahead of time.

The initial plan was to reach the one million mark in 100 days... but the campaign has so captured the imagination of the public that the milestone was reached on Thursday 21st June, 15 days ahead of schedule.

"We are delighted to have hit one million ‘turn ons' ahead of schedule," said Paul Willcox, Senior Vice President for Sales and Marketing, Nissan in Europe. "It shows that more and more people are realising that cars like Nissan LEAF are a real alternative. While Nissan might have reached its target early, The Big Turn On

will continue to spread the word about the 100% electric LEAF."

As well as encouraging car drivers from France, Germany, the Netherlands and the UK to consider the benefits of zero-emission driving, the campaign is also showing that the Nissan LEAF is incredibly safe, environmentally friendly and economical to run, with the range between charges being easily sufficient for the vast majority of daily trips.

At the end of the campaign, the city with the most drivers turned on to electric vehicles will be given 30 Nissan Quick Chargers, while the individual who encourages the most people to turn on will win a Nissan LEAF.

These CHAdeMO standard Quick Chargers are among 400 that Nissan plans to donate to cities across Europe by the end of FY2012 to speed up infrastructure development. The batteries in the Nissan LEAF, and other compliant vehicles, can be "refuelled" by these chargers to 80 per cent capacity in just 30 minutes making significantly longer journeys possible. The first Nissan Quick Chargers have already been installed in the Netherlands and France.

About The Big Turn On
The Big Turn On is a 100 day campaign to demonstrate the benefits of electric vehicles, and to bust the myths that surround, them through online influencers, owners, and celebrities. The influencers compete to turn the most people on to electric driving for their city, and the top influencer in each country can win a Nissan LEAF. The most turned on city after the 100 days will win 30 Nissan-designed Quick Chargers, capable of replenishing a Nissan LEAF battery to 80% charge in 30 minutes or less. The campaign is based online with outlets on Youtube, Facebook and the online hub at http://www.the-big-turn-on.com/

About the Nissan LEAF
The Nissan LEAF was the first mass produced EV winning the European, World and Japanese car of the year 2011. More than 32,000 units have been sold globally since its introduction in December 2010, making Nissan LEAF the world's most selling electric vehicle. The AC motor develops 80 kW of power and 280 Nm of torque, enough for a maximum speed of 145 km/h. The electric motor is powered by a Nissan-developed laminated lithium-ion battery with an output of more than 90 kW. Recharging from empty to 100% takes eight hours with a normal charger and just 30 minutes from empty to 80% using a quick charger in optimal conditions. Nissan LEAF has been awarded five stars in the tough Euro NCAP tests, making it one of the safest cars on the road. Nissan LEAF comes fully equipped with air conditioning, satellite navigation, rear-view parking camera. European production of the Nissan LEAF will start at Sunderland in early 2013.

Tip of the Day: Protect your car paint from the sun

Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE

Car_cover

Paint does more than make your vehicle look great. It’s also the first line of defense against rusted body panels. Of course, the best way to protect the paint is to park the car in a garage. If that is not possible, park in the shade or purchase a car cover. The sun’s ultraviolet rays break down paint and cause it to fade. Some car covers protect your car from more than sun, moisture, bird droppings, and dust — they also have a thin layer of cushioning that will guard against light impact, such as from a tipped bicycle or small falling tree branch.

The Nissan Juke Nismo will debut at Le Mans

Nissan_juke_nismo

It's no Juke-R, but the more reasonable Nissan Juke Nismo will make its world debut at Le Mans this weekend. It seems only fitting, considering Nissan is providing power for a quarter of the field at the famous race. The Juke will get an enhanced version of the 1.6-liter turbocharged engine as well as some body and suspension work.

The Juke Nismo will wear a new aerodynamics kit with lower front and rear bumpers and wider wings and side skirts. Those pieces join a modified grille and tailgate spoiler to improve downforce at speed.

At the corners, the Nismo has unique 18-inch wheels with wider tires for better handling. The suspension will get stiffened springs, and the steering will be modified for more direct handling.

Nissan won't release specs on the car until closer to its in European launch in January, but the current turbo four makes 188 hp and 177 lb-ft of torque. We expect at least a slight bump over that.

Inside the vehicle, Nismo added steering-wheel, pedal, gauge, gearshift and door trims that have been redesigned for a bit more flair. Sport seats with red stitching and suede trim hold drivers during cornering.

The Nismo Juke will be built in Sunderland, United Kingdom, and will be available for purchase in the United States and Japan at a later date, according to Nissan. Pricing hasn't been announced, but the jump from the Nissan 370Z Touring to the 370Z Nismo is only about $1,600.
